Weekly Lower & Early Childhood Message

Dear Parents,

This Sunday's Early Childhood Picnic is only for parents and families of students in PK, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten (not Lower Division). Drinks and desserts are provided. Please email your child's teacher directly with the number of people attending the picnic by Friday. I have attached the flyer again. We hope you can make it!

Tomorrow is Dad's Day Chapel and Pastries for Pops. Dads and/or special guests of students in JK-Grade 4 should report to their child's classroom between 8:00-8:10 with their child. Dads and special guests: There will be a moment in the service that you will turn to your child and let them know why they are special to you. If your child will not have a guest, I will assure these students that they will hear from you tomorrow evening. After chapel (approximately 8:50), the students will return to their classrooms. Dads and/or special guests are invited to have a cup of coffee and pastry in the courtyard.

If your child is in choir, please remember the choir concert has been changed to Monday, May 21 at 8:15 instead of this Friday.

Our current numbers in kindergarten for next year do not reflect a need for teaching assistants. At this time, Ms. Kubica and Mrs. Purcell will not be returning. We are hopeful this need might change in the near future. Please drop off letters and cards in the decorated mailbox in the main lobby for them, Mrs. Rushing, Ms. Swenson and Mr. Bikangwa.

If anyone has empty gallon milk jugs, please send them into school. We are decorating them for Penny Wars next week. The HUDDLE members have decided to donate the proceeds to Dayspring Shelter (this shelter provides clothing and three nourishing meals-a-day for homeless families with children in central Indiana). Please remember to have your child save a portion of their Lemonade Day profits for this project.

Do you have any feedback about last week's morning drop-off procedures when everyone went through the back alley on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? Please email me your thoughts. On that same note, please make an appointment with me or drop by if there are any suggestions you have for the 2012-2013 school year. I have been in frequent contact with Mr. David Amstutz (our incoming Head of School), and it has been a pleasure. I know he is very excited about the upcoming school year, and he is seriously invested in SRES.

Finally, this week's book selection is ADHD and Me: What I Learned From Lighting Fires at the Dinner Table by Blake E.S. Taylor. I am just finishing this easy read, and it has been eye opening. It is a memoir from a young man who was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of three, and you will most likely find it helpful if you know anyone dealing with challenges with attention.

Make it a great week!
