Global Readiness Committee
The Global Readiness Committee Statement
To broaden awareness at St. Richard's School by creating dialogue and understanding about the cultural similarities and differences in our society and world, while celebrating and reaffirming the individuality and culture of our students and community.
We will fulfill this mission through our goals of:
-
promoting an understanding of diversity within our school, city and country (including sub-group cultures and socio-economic differences; and
-
creating resources and contacts to deepen the students' understanding and appreciation of local, national and international connections and peers.
Our definition of diversity is broad and encompasses ethnic, racial , cultural, gender, spiritual, and socio-economic backgrounds, as well as the spectrum of family structures and learning styles.
Key Actions (Objectives) of the Global Readiness Committee
The Global Readiness Committee (GRC) will:
- Secure, create and engage new resources related to Global Readiness to help meet our mission.
- Document how topics related to Global Readiness are currently present in the classes and extracurricular activities at St. Richard's School. This includes compiling lists and samples of curriculum and written materials, projects, teaching approaches, speakers, events, and other means of dissemination and celebration.
- Translate Global Readiness messages and findings into numerous formats for our constituencies. Examples include: new curriculum resources for faculty and students available on the GRC website, reports on Global Readiness efforts communicated to the St. Richard's Board of Trustees, and information on the richness of cultural teachings in our lesson content in marketing and recruiting materials .
Speakers Bureau
The St. Richard's Speakers Bureau is currently under development and will list speakers and performers available to enrich the classroom curriculum and school assemblies. This includes St. Richard's family members, friends, and experts from Indianapolis-based organizations that can speak on a number of topics related to diversity. The range of topics will span religion, culture and ethnicity, the arts, countries around the world, diverse family units, and healthy youth development (emotional, social, intellectual and physical development), as well as culturally-related historical events (such as the Holocaust, the world's religions, the Civil Rights movement, Hispanic culture, China and others). Categories for speakers were identified by faculty surveys and an analysis of the Scope and Sequence of the St. Richard's curriculum. A list will be available to faculty through the website and in print.
