Dear Friends, Families, and Faculty, Only one more week of school! It is hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end, though we have certainly had celebration after celebration of all things good at St. Richard's School. Today we enjoyed the Early Childhood and first grade traditional Arky, Arky, and it was touching to see how many older students remembered the words and the gestures. Second grade displayed their Endangered Species reports and did a marvelous job of describing their animal and the threats of its extinction. Lastly, the first grade students marched in their Memorial Day Parade, and three sixth grade students read their "What Freedom Means to Me" Sertoma essays. It was a proud day at St. Richard's School! Congratulations to Eli Cheatham for being selected to play on the Indiana U-13 lacrosse team which will compete at Kings Island against other state teams. Congratulations and thank you to the fifth grade for donating $224 to the scholarship fund by growing and selling herbs. 1. A big thank you to students, parents, and staff for their generosity in this year's Penny War. St. Richard's School has raised $902.26 that will be split between Building Tomorrow and The Umoja Project. Building Tomorrow works in Uganda establishing primary schools for children who would otherwise have no access to education. This worthwhile project was brought to the Huddle's attention by 8th grader Amy Lootens and her older sister who volunteer for the program. The Umoja Project provides essential services - such as blankets, food, and health care - to children in Kenya who have lost their parents to the AIDS disease. St. Richard's alumna Annie Garau, Caroline's older sister, volunteers for this organization. The top awards in this year's Penny War are for MOST MONEY RAISED and MOST PENNIES COLLECTED. The MOST MONEY AWARD goes to Ms. Napier's second grade class, which collected a whopping $177.15. The MOST PENNIES AWARD winner is Miss Graber's second grade class with an amazing 6,776 pennies and an equally impressive total of $172.86 raised. The Second Grade did an outstanding job - raising 38 percent of the overall total. THE PENNY WARRIOR AWARD - the class with highest percentage of pennies at 68 percent - was Mr. Strock's Grade 7. Congratulations students and thank you to the Huddle for sponsoring our annual fund-raiser. 2. Artwork will be sent home with students between now and Tuesday, May 25. 3. If you have medication at the school for your child, please pick it up from Mrs. Savka at the front desk no later than Thursday, May 27. Anything not picked up by May 27 will be discarded. 4. If you utilize the afternoon carpool line, please make sure to pull all the way over to the right side of 32nd Street. Traffic not associated with St. Richard's has difficulty moving properly through, and we need to be courteous to our neighbors. 5. There will be a used uniform sale on June 11 from 2:30 until 5:00 at the Scout Building. Please bring any donations of used uniforms to the front desk. Thank you! 6. Sign up now for summer camps! Their new email address is effective immediately: sushijenn@aol.com (was sushijenn@indy.rr.com ). 8. 2009-2010 Annual Fund Annual Fund participation serves as a testament of your commitment and faith in St. Richard's School as a whole. As an independent, private school, St. Richard's does not receive federal or state funding and instead relies on tuition, our endowment, annual giving and other donations. Foundations, other grant making organizations, and the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) often consider the size of a school's fund and their current parent participation as being the only measurable base for determining a school's stature and stability. Your annual gift shows that St. Richard's is a place worthy of investment, leading to a stronger case for additional support. Attached is the current "draft" of the 2009-2010 Annual Fund Annual Report. If you don't see your name listed, please consider making a gift of ANY AMOUNT! If corrections are necessary, please direct them to Michelle Rhodes in the Development Office. Gifts may be made up until June 30, 2010. Click GIVE to make your gift now. 9.
