Dear Friends, Families, and Faculty,
Two days in a row of full sunshine!! Spring is on its way!
A few exciting successes:
1. Teddy Root (G6) and Thomas Shera (G5) competed in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee this week. It is the first time that St. Richard's has sent two delegates to the Regional Bee, and they both did so well! Teddy finished ninth and Thomas finished 5th (so both in the top ten in the region!). They exhausted all of the words on the Scripps spelling list, so the judges gave them bizarre words they had not studied, and they still excelled. Way to go, boys!
2. The 5&6 grade girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Kingsway Christian last night in the tournament championship, 19 to 17. At the last second, Kingsway Christian shot a ball that bounced three times against the backboard and through the net to win the game. Our Lady Dragons finished the season 20-2 and second place in tournament play. We're proud of you, Lady Dragons!
3. This past week, 5th and 6th grade students completed significant efforts in the Science Fair. Placing for 5th grade were 1st Natalia Rombel, 2nd Sam Creveling, 3rd Tyler Wott, and Honorable Mention (alphabetically) were Lila Ammeen, Thomas Bamforth, Olivia Burke, Jacqueline Knoblesdorf, Harrison Maginn, Justin Matei, and Meghann Roessler. Special thanks to Dave Bender, Beth Ann Thomas, Wanita Kumar, Kara Bungard, Bernard Fletcher, and Tatiana Faroud for judging the fifth grade competition.
Placing for 6th grade were 1st Sam Kaefer, 2nd Katherine Watkins, 3rd Sarah Klotz, and Honorable Mention were Patrick Burgett and Branden Moore. Special thanks to judges Emily Blue, Fred Chadwell, and Lou Coury. These students will progress to the District Science Fair. Good Luck!
Now for announcements:
1. Regalia is tomorrow night! Check out the live auction items and last minute reminders by clicking here.
2. If anyone has seen a Swatch watch that has taxicabs and streets on it, seventh grader Hope Fennig is missing it. Her father gave her the watch a few days before he passed away last summer, so this watch is very special to her. If you find it mixed in with any school belongings, please bring it to the front office. Thank you!!
3. It's time to sign up for the 2010 St. Richard's Track Team! Optional weekend practice starts this coming Saturday, March 6, 10 am at Butler (park on 52nd near the tennis bubble). Regular weekday practices will begin on Monday, March 15. Any boy or girl, Grades 5 through 8, is encouraged to participate! Track is an ideal sport for a wide range of athletic and physical abilities, involving as it does short and long running events, throwing and jumping! We'll find a best event for everyone!

The St. Richards School Parent Organization will hold its Spring General Meeting on Monday, March 15th at 6pm in the Fortune Room. We will hold elections for next year's Executive Board. Please contact Deidre Lindsey at pharmdee01@aol.com if interested in serving on the Board. We will hear a presentation from Carolyn Lausch about the work of the Social Networking Committee. This committee has been working to establish boundaries and educate the students about this ever-growing method of communication. LeaAnn Koekenberg will present information to bring the parents up to date on Internet safety and social networking and related issues facing our students. This should be a very informative presentation and we hope you will make plans to attend.
5. For families of adopted international children, please consider attending a conference on March 20 from 9:00 until 11:00 in the Fortune Room for helpful tips connecting your son or daughter with their culture. Please click here for more information and here to register.
Best wishes for a wonderful weekend, and a successful Regalia! Bid high, it's for the kids!
