Electronic Friday Folder 5/2/08
Dear Friends, Families, and Faculty of St. Richard's School,
I have a few announcements for you today:
1. Young Voices of Indianapolis will be performing with Sandi Patty on May 22nd, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Don't miss this amazing performance by many St. Richard's children (and others) led by our own Marian Bender. Tickets are available by calling 536-5595.
2. Young Voices of Indianapolis will hold auditions throughout the month of May for next year's choir. To schedule an audition for your child, please call 926-0425 x 302. Students from other schools in Indianapolis are also welcome to audition. Students in Grades 2-4 will audition for the Young Voices Preparatory Choir, and students in Grades 5+ will audition for the Concert Choir and Encore Singers. This year's choir will travel to Britain in July to participate in a choir festival. The experience of singing in this wonderful choir and participating in philanthropy efforts will benefit your child for a lifetime.
3. It's time again for the SRS Talent Show! We are very excited to announce that we are revamping our theme this year - out with the old and in with the new, as they say. And so, bye-bye basketball theme and hello to.... WHEEL....OF.....TALENT!!! That's right, we've taken on a game show flavor which will showcase not just the artistic but also the academic talents of our students. Auditions will be Friday, May 16 from 3:30 - 5:00pm and Monday, May 19th from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Appointments are necessary, and a completed act is mandatory. All details can be found on the info sheet which is located on the website under School Life, Electronic Friday Folder, current issue. If, after reading the information page in its entirety, you still have questions, please direct them to Chrissy Gray cgray@strichardsschool.org or Kathi Ridley kridley@strichardsschool.org. Talent Show rules 4. We are looking for 5 prizes for the WHEEL OF TALENT. In the past, gift cards to Target, iTunes, and /or Starbucks have been big hits. If you would like to donate a gift card for a prize, please bring the card (denomination of your choosing, but we suggest $5 or $10 at the most) and leave it in Kathi Ridley's mailbox at the front desk. We are also seeking a big wheel... and I don't mean a tricycle. We need one of those casino-night, big spinning wheels - can anyone help?
5. PO General Membership Meeting. Summer is coming, and many of our children will have more free time to spend in the cyber-world. Sadly, the virtual world can be a dangerous space. As part of the PO's spring general membership meeting, we are pleased to present a program by Abby Williams that will focus on Internet safety. Her program is described below:
Are you up to speed on cyberbullying? Are you aware that one out of five kids has been sexually solicited online? Have you heard of Facebook, You Tube and MySpace? Join Abby Williams to learn more about the dangers of the internet and how you can help your children, tweens and teens be safe while they are online. This session will also feature clips from the PBS Documentary, GROWING UP ON-LINE. Questions? E-mail Abby at awilliams@strichardsschool.org.
Please join us on Wednesday, May 7, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. in the Fortune Room for this important opportunity. Child care will be available for all who make reservations with Kathi Ridley by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5.
6. Any student in grades 3-6 interested in learning how to play volleyball should join Lea Ann Koekenberg for a Volleyball Clinic during the weeks of May 12 and May 19th. Please see the attachment on the St. Richard's webpage under School Life, Electronic Friday folder, current issue for more information.
7. Please see the attachment from Gerianne Hap outlining free ways that your family can help St. Richard's School this summer. (attachment on web page)
