Message for the Week of November 17, 2008
Last Friday we enjoyed an assembly with Alligator Aaron who shared his knowledge about saving the earth and endangered animals. He regaled us with an alligator named Gucci, a vulture named Mozart, an indicator frog, a coati named Betsy, and a boa constrictor. The program was quite interactive with students.
Term 2 begins today; can you believe it!
Today, Grade 8 will go Downtown to the State Office Building to compete in the District 7 We the People hearing on the Constitution. Because there are no other middle schools competing, we will be going up against high school teams. The good news is: We automatically win district and will advance to state. Andrea Neal and Carolyn Lausch will accompany students. 8th grade parents are invited to attend. See email from Mrs. Neal.
I want to acknowledge accomplishments of three Middle Division faculty.
Next Friday and through the weekend, Andrea Neal will be participating in the Liberty Foundation's seminar on Shakespeare's history dramas. One has to be invited to this event. She will be downtown at a wonderful hotel and engaged in lively discussions. Congratulations, Andrea.
Next week Rod Smith will be in Seoul, South Korea, to be the keynote speaker at a conference. He will be the guest of a leading Presbyterian Church (Onnuri Presbyterian Church), which holds an annual summit for persons interested in Family Systems. This is Rod's third visit to Korea. (Please be extra supportive of Thulani and Nathanael). Ken Meyers will be his sub.
I appreciate the fact that Kate Boehm spent time with students on Tuesday making poppies for students and faculty to wear in honor of Veteran's Day. Students learned a great deal about how the French in Canada and France support their veterans.
Students can still bring in food for the Learning to Give annual food drive through Tuesday. We are supplying MidNorth Pantry with food from all twenty-one homerooms. Students created a food-person that Dr. Molly Garau judged Friday afternoon. Winners were ms. Malooley's room, Ms. Read's room, and Mr. Strock's 7th graders tied for 3rd place with Mrs. Rhoades' room. Thanks to Andrea Neal for being the Huddle coach on the project and to Pete Connallon for helping with collection and organization.
Please note the following message, as the day is a change from previous years:
